I hate to add yet another thread (and inevitable Reason Vs Rage) on the forums, but people need to stop crying for BPO cash refunds. As has been stated by many people, the EULA of Dust gives CCP the right to do whatever the hell they want with this game. Any and all items are property of CCP, regardless if they are ISK/AUR or BPO/BPC. By accepting the EULA and playing the game, you WILLINGLY accept those terms, and void any right to claim foul play.
"But I paid real money for my BPOs! CCP are robbing me!", Rage cries from the rooftops. False. You used Aurum to purchase those items. A VIRTUAL currency with no real-world value.
"I paid CCP for those in-game Aurum with my cold, hard cash. Refund CCP!!!", he continues merrily. "Ha to you, Reason!", his lackey will quip, "I used the PSN store and bought an in-game pack including the BPO, not AUR"
False. Through the PSN wallet you purchased the Aurum/Packs using pre-purchased credit, that for the sake of convenience has equal value to the currency that was used to buy it.
"See! you have proven you're own downfall, FOOL! You just admitted we spent money on BPOs, Huzzah!". False. The only service you have truly purchased with your sweaty, blood soaked, hard earned cash, is the right to use PSN. The fact that you chose to spend those purchased credits in a virtual world, on virtual items, when there is literally NO obligation to pay a penny for the game itself - is only of your own concern when you aren't happy with that choice.
"We will fight to the very last! Rage and reason are old enemies, as these forums know all too well." "Very well, you have put up a valiant, if less than reasonable argument. Commence once more with your salty eye rivers." "The BPO in game says permanent, so they CAN'T remove it, that's false advertising"
False. The BPO may say permanent, but this is merely in relation to game terms, not real world. This game revolves around making ISK to buy gear. The same gear that you lose some of every time you die. NOTHING lasts, except the BPOs. They provide a permanent supply of the weapon so you don't have to keep buying BPCs at a personal cost. In EVE BPOs are used to manufacture copies of an item for use/sale on the market, but cannot be used as the item themselves.(Please someone correct me if I'm wrong). Because this mechanic isn't in Dust yet (and may never be), we equip the BPO as an item, but in reality we are creating a fresh disposable item every time we spawn. Using the "permanent" BPO.
Panting, exhausted from the battle, Rage approached Reason; "REFUND! MINE! WANT! NNNOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!" "Ah Rage, it's okay, I know you don't understand." Reason offered reassuringly, "I promise that in a little while - just after the New Year - there will be a wonderful time for you." "Huh?", rage peeked through bloodshot eyes, filled with both hope and confusion." "In a little over two months, 1.8 will come along and you can find something else to complain about for a while." "Do you promise?" Rage enquired, mucus trickling down his chin. "Yes Rage, I promise. You don't even have to wait for anything official, start with the rumours. Okay?" "OKAY! Gee thanks Reason, you aren't so bad after all!" Rage exclaimed as he skipped merrily on his way.
As Reason watched Rage disappear deep into the forums, he smiled. Knowing that the battle would always be there. When the spoilt gibberish of Rage returns, ready to scream and shout to the last, Reason will be there. Watching. Waiting. |

What ethics are involved here? As I already stated any and all money paid went to Sony, not CCP. If you are unhappy and believe you have been wronged, then Sony is the company you need to talk to. But since CCP can't do **** without Sony's say, Sony are obviously fine with these "shady" business practices.
Yes, I can understand people wanting a BPO replacement simply for the ISK saving convenience. But the money argument is invalid, especially when used against CCP.
And let's just say that throughout all of Dust, 100% of BPOs were kept in because you "paid" for them. Do you plan on playing Dust for the rest of your life? What if you decide to quit? Your items will be sitting there, "cold, hard, cash" doing nothing. Will you cry for a refund then? Would you ask for a refund when you are done with PS3 and get a PS4? |
